About Us

Our People

We are a spiritual organization incorporated in the State of Virginia as  a Church as that is the closest fitting description. We are NOT a tribe  and have no desire to take the place of the fine Native Nations and  Tribes of this country.  We practice the ancient spirituality of our  ancestors including living as one with the earth and as care-takers.

Our Way

The spirituality and teachings we follow are those from the very old  writings from three of the four families who maintained ancient records:  Charles Harnage (Hawk); Wilber Taylor Liver (Taylor); and John James  Harriss (Blue Feather); were all full blood Cherokee who did not desire  membership in either the Cherokee Nation or the Eastern Band, although  some of Hawk’s family were members of the Eastern Band and other family  members belonged to the Nation.   All three are now deceased and greatly missed, with Taylor being the  last to cross to the other side in 2008 at 96 years old.  Hawk passed in  2005 at 97, and Blue Feather a few years earlier.   Hawk commenced the translations from the ancient writings at the  beginning of the 1930s, not too many years after being released from  Carlisle, and was assisted at various times by the other two.

Our History

Hawk and Taylor commenced teaching the old traditions with emphasis on  spirituality in the early 1930s, teaching first to many Cherokee, then  traveling for the remainder of their lives teaching within many Indian  Nations and Tribes.  They also spoke with groups of people who wished to  listen, telling all of our Creator and His love.  Our current spiritual  teachings are a continuation of what Hawk had started, commencing over  the internet just a few days after Hawk’s demise.  The effort continues  today.  Membership in our spiritual “Church” is completely free, does  require one to try and live by the ancient teachings and spirituality,  to be caretakers of our Earth, to observe the ancient ceremonies and to  establish their own close personal relationship with our Creator.
