Many years ago, Charles Harnage (Hawk) wrote the following:
"Reading and learning of our ancient cultural ways are not enough to truly satisfy anyone. What they seek is the ancient community of cultural and spiritual living we had on a day to day basis of interaction with each other and all living things through our ancient ways and beliefs. You cannot learn these if you do not put them to use. You cannot find the satisfaction these things bring unless you are willing to LIVE the life our ancestors once did."
The quote from Hawk is ours to accomplish. Our goal is to do as Hawk stated: to obtain land, develop schools that teach the curriculum of the dominant society as well as the ancient culture, traditions, and language, and the legacy of living with nature would be passed on to all generations. A village for people to live in according to the old culture, and where others may visit to observe or learn as they wish will be built, with all construction using what is available and not disrupting nature or the environment. In accomplishing this, the village would not use electricity, except for the school and the medical facility, as well as one office where telephone service and communication would be maintained for emergencies. Native plants would be planted and grown, windmills and solar panels would be used only where the electricity was needed for the schools and medical facilities, and all living would be done with minimum impact on the environment. All would learn to live as caretakers of this planet and this would be taught within the school system as well as through daily living. As a people we are very much against illicit drug use, the use of tobacco for any purpose other than that required in certain ceremonies, and the use of alcohol in any form. Our goal is to live by the ancient culture and standards of our ancestors, to be caretakers of this planet, to walk spiritually with and as servants of our Creator, and to live in total peace with all mankind.
